Tuesday Update

Hard to imagine, last week at this time it appeared as if the heavens were to open up and dump a whole bucket full of water on us. And as a result of everyone playing it safe, we missed all last Wednesday when it came to church events, so, we get to play catchup tomorrow.

9:30am - Explorer's Bible Study
5:00pm - Handbell Rehearsal
5:30pm - Wednesday Night Dinner
6:15pm - Children's Ministry Time
6:30pm - Financial Peace and New study & Resurrection and Easter Faith

Now for some opportunity for us to make a Christian difference in our community. It has been revealed over 700 homes in Lafayette Parish alone had some effect from the rising water over the last few hard rains. While we delivered flood buckets, the next phase of restoration is beginning.

This Saturday, Covenant has been asked to supply lunch, via a brown bag, to some of the effected areas while people are in their homes working. We have the task to make, pack, and then deliver around 100 lunches. I need your help.

I can have all the ingredients for us to make sandwiches but I need some willing hands on Saturday morning, around 9:00am. Please let me know by email to chris@covenantum.org if you can donate some time on Saturday morning. It would even be great for a few of us to be able to deliver the lunches in the Carencro area around 11:00am.

Don't forget, our worship service Sunday with the original music from Redeemed. 10:00am - A Giant Easter Egg Hunt. Bring your family, friends, enemies. Invite all you know.

Covenant Preschool News

Happy Easter! I hope everyone is enjoying our “Spring” weather- we sure are. The Preschool/MDO students are so happy to be going outside to play. We are so busy. The school is getting ready for our Easter parties and egg hunts. We have our Easter break the week of April 9th-13th. After our break, we will be preparing for our Pre-K Graduation, as well as our Summer session. We still have a few opening for Summer and Fall. Please come by or call if you are interested.

P.S. Thank you to all that participated in the Komen walk- we had 41 people sign up!

Youth and Young Adults

Our much anticipated Acquire the Fire trip was an AMAZING experience. Whether they were rededicating their lives to Christ or the experience of giving their life to Christ for the first time, we all left with a renewed love for our Lord. Everyone is looking forward to next year when we will be able to share this with more youth and young adults. We are continuing to keep the "Fire" alive with a new study called Collision Course. This study is designed to continue where our weekend left off.

Angelica Deforest is teaching the children to sign a song that they will do with our youth and young adults in April.

As the end of the school year quickly approaches, we are looking forward to honoring all Covenant graduates at a Banquet on May 5th. If you or someone you know is graduating (high school, college, or technical school) please let us know.

Children's Ministry

Sometimes the best way to keep everyone informed of the many happenings of the Children’s Ministry, and to reinforce our open invitation to you and your little ones to any and all of our wonderful events! Big kids welcome too!
  • April 1st – Easter Egg Hunt with a special appearance by THE Easter Bunny himself! Contact Lindsey Perry to volunteer or donate eggs and egg stuffing.
  • Turn in your bottles for Miles Perret Center with your collected change. Let me know if you need another bottle!
  • April 15th and 22nd – Club 456
  • April 22nd – Covenant Kids will be doing a song presentation at both services, along with the youth and young adults. Come and share this special presentation with our young people
Congratulations to Jennifer Manuel and the MPKids on a great bake sale. Thanks to you and the participation of our congregation, we raised about $588 for the local children’s shelter! That’s incredible!

Mark your calendar: Vacation Bible School July 16 – 20, 2012. We’re getting’ down to lift Him high! Could you be called to a role in this vital (and oh so fun event)? Thank you, Church, for all of your support to our Covenant Kids. I know they feel the love.

Mission Possible Kids

Mission Possible Kids would like to thank Covenant for its support of our bake sale Sunday, March 11. Your generosity allowed us to raise nearly $600 for the Children's Shelter of Acadiana Youth, which includes the Acadiana Shelter for Girls, the Children's Shelter, and Maison de Mere. They were thrilled to receive this unexpected gift as well as the leftover goodies from the sale.

I would like to thank all our MPKids "agents" and their parents, as well as our supporters, for baking such delightful treats. This proves that children can make a difference! Upcoming MPKids events:
  • Saturday, April 21—We will participate in the Louisiana Skeeter Run, sponsored by the United Methodist Church. Go to http://rethinkchurch.org/impact-event/louisiana-skeeter-run for more information.
  • Saturday, May 5—We will volunteer for Food Net, 8 a.m. to noon. Check your email as the time gets closer for more information.
  • In May we will also have our Children's Ministry party! More information to come.

Covenant News - March 20, 2012

Hold the presses! First of all, we are clear to pick up our permit for our new building, so praise be to God. We will have a groundbreaking time after each of our three Easter Services. Stay tuned for more.

Due to the possibility of bad weather tomorrow evening, we are going to cancel our Wednesday night dinner. There will be no classes either. Handbell choir, Lisa White will contact you about your rehearsal at 5:00pm.

Wind has already taken a shingle off the church, and big limbs down in my yard, so may the Lord protect us all from any harm.

Don't forget, we will have two memorial services this week associated with our church. Thursday at Delhommes Funeral Home at 11:00am we will have the service for Rev. Gaylord Dodgen, husband of Lanez Scarborough Dodgen.

Then, Saturday at Covenant. 9:00 -11:00am, visitation and 11:00am service for Charles W. Nolan.

Hope to see you this weekend for worship.  We are only a few weeks away from Holy Week.

Sincerely,

One last word. Pray for your pastor. I am getting very agitated about the slow moving process of getting permits from the City. We are having to plant some 30 new trees around our campus. It certainly will add to the beauty and we would have done it any way. But, it was required. But we are one hurdle closer to getting started. Again, thanks for all your prayers, your support, financial and otherwise, as we move towards actually seeing progress. (I am so impatient!)

Sincerely,
