What a week it has been as I find time to write this article. The Horrific Act of Terrorism at the Boston Marathon, with three lives taken, and thousands if not millions once again had our sense of safety and security in our homeland shaken. Then on Wednesday night, an explosion that rocked the Central Texas City of West, with the number killed yet to be determined, but again thousands not only had their lives turned upside down, but we as a nation were reminded of the variety of disasters that come into our world. Here we are just days away from having our new facility completed and turned over to us for our final preparations and use, and we are running around trying to make all the last minute decisions and purchases, and then we were reminded of what the purpose of church is all about. It is to be a safe landing place for those who are hurt and wounded and shaken. It is to be people of the Covenant of God, that knows our purpose is about changing lives and providing true hope in our Lord Jesus Christ.
I could not help but think back to 9/11 and a prayer lifted up by Rev. Max Lucado on behalf of our nation. I take the liberty to quote portions of the prayer and I hope you will pause long enough to pray that prayer and allow God to begin healing our brokenness once again.
Dear Lord,
We're still hoping we'll wake up. We're still hoping we'll open a sleepy eye and think, What a horrible Dream. But we won't, will we, Father? What we saw was not a dream. Planes did gouge towers. Flames did consume our fortress. People did perish. It was no dream and, dear Father, we are sad.
We are sad, Father. For as the innocent are buried, our innocence is buried as well. We thought we were safe. Perhaps we should have know better. But we didn't.
And so we come to You. We don't ask You for help; we beg You for it. We don't request it; we implore it. We know what You can do. We've read the accounts. We've pondered the stories and now we plead, Do It Again, Lord. Do it again.
Remember Joseph? You rescued him from the pit. You can do the same for us. Do it again, Lord. Remember the Hebrews in Egypt? You protected their children from the angel of death. We have children too, Lord. Do it again....You changed Daniel from a captive into a king's counselor. You took Peter the fisherman and made him Peter an Apostle. Because of You, David went from leading sheep to leading armies. Do it again, Lord, for we need counselors today, we need apostles, and we need leaders. Do it again, dear Lord.
Most of all, do again what You did at Calvary. What we saw here, you saw there on that Friday. Innocence slaughtered, goodness murdered. Mothers weeping. Evil dancing. Just as the ash fell on our children, the darkness fell on Your Son. Just as our towers were shattered, the very Tower of Eternity was pierced. And by dusk, heaven's sweetest song was silent, buried behind a rock.
But You did not waver, O Lord. You did not waver. After three days in a dark hole, You rolled back the rock and rumbled the earth and turned the darkest Friday into the brightest Sunday. Do it again, Lord. Grant us “another” Easter.
We thank you for unity....and we thank you for these hours of prayer. The Enemy sought to bring us to our knees and succeeded. He had no idea, however, that we would kneel before You. And he has no idea what You can do...Do it again, Lord. Do it again. Through Christ, Amen.
See you in your place of worship and service and prayer,

Reminders and Prayers
Men's Breakfast and Light WorkDay
Saturday 8:00am - gather for a light breakfast and then if weather permits we can divvy up our list of chores - mulch spreading, a little weed eating, cutting grass around the church building, a/c filter changing, maybe a little light carpentry-no saws necessary, and just general fun and fellowship with your Christian Brothers.
Don't forget Sunday - two opportunities to Praise the Name of Jesus.
As I write this, the hunt is on for one of the Boston Marathon Bomber suspects. Pray that he be captured alive, so the full plot might be revealed. And that God's Light shine upon the Darkness of Evil. Pray for the Law Enforcement Officers, and especially for the family of the one killed, and the recovery of the other officer wounded in the chase. I am always amazed at the bravery of these men and women who rush in to confront evil, while the natural inclination would be to flee. Praise God for these brave men and women.
See You this weekend in your place of worship!

Season of Lent Begins Today
Mardi Gras is over, and now our preparation for Easter can Begin.
We prepare ourselves spiritually and mentally and physically. Many of us give up some pleasure or food that brings pleasure, as a way of denying self and using the time to focus on Jesus.
But we do that spiritually as well. Lent is about course correction, our need to turn back to the Ways and Principles of Christ.
This begins with our Ash Wednesday Service, a time of prayer, and devotion and singing, and Holy Communion. proceeded by our dinner is at 5:30 - Chicken and Tuna Salad. The services is 6:30 in the Sanctuary.
Saturday, 8:00am - Men's Breakfast: good food, great fellowship, and a time to Serve our church by doing a few items on our To Do List.
Sunday morning - Lent is a time to renew our Commitment to Worship Our Lord Jesus Christ. Our Sermon Focus turns to Grace. Connecting The Dots of Grace, we sing about it, talk about, but most of us leave most of the God packaged Grace unopened. Come expecting to see that Gift unwrapped! I will be preaching on Grace during Lent.
Sunday, 4:00pm - Church Council Meeting.
Upcoming
Wednesday Night Study will be focusing on World Religions more in detail than I was able to cover during the Sermons. Starting next Wednesday Feb. 20th.
Prayer for the day:
Dear Lord, on this first day of Lent, we come in repentance and sorrow for all our offenses against You and others. As we dare to worship You, we seek Your forgiveness that our sins may be removed and our spirits made clean and whole. Purify us, and enable us to walk in joy and gladness once again. All of this we ask in the name of the One who came to deliver us from sin and death. Amen.
Sincerely,

The Sun is Just Around the Corner....
Dear Covenant Family -
To paraphrase the Apostle Peter, I consider the misery of these long rainy dreary days to be pale in comparison with the Joy Filled Days of The Sunny Days of the Son, to Come.
Okay, so much for armchair platitudes. While it is rainy and cold and our front yards are afloat and some in our area have water in their homes, it does not stop the work of the church. Our preschool is open and children are running around. We had a full room of Zumba folks last evening and tonight- Tuesday our I TECH class will be having their second meeting at 6:00pm
Wednesday
9:30am - Explorer's Bible Study
5:00pm - Hand Bells at 5PM
5:30pm - Wednesday Night Dinner - Soup, Salad, and Great Fellowship
6:15pm - Prayer and Communion
6:15pm - Children's Mid Week Program
6:30pm - Young Married
6:30pm - Grace: is the voice that calls us to change and then gives us the power to pull it off? Join the preachers as we lead this new study.
Saturday
8:00am - Men's Saturday Work Day and Breakfast. All men invited.
Sunday
Another great day of Worship, Study, Youth and Children's Ministry.

Up and Coming
I know most of you have used or heard the phrase “up and coming”, as it relates to people who advancing in their
career or a neighborhood that is making a come back. I believe that can be used of our church family here at Covenant.
We are an up and coming congregation. Yes, we have a great 30 yr plus history, but we are not waning, we are on the
move and we are committed to be a dynamic up and coming congregation for into the future. With more than a
building being prepared for our future, we are also preparing our church for the future mission as well. I am so glad to
be a part of an up and coming congregation.
We also have events scheduled that I want to call attention to in this article, events that are up and coming soon for us all. Before you get comfortable in your easy chair watching your favorite football team eating gumbo (sounds good to me), take your calendar out and plan now to attend:
Starting September 27th, we will begin our 40 days of Prayer for our Nation, prior to our National election. It is our Christian duty to pray for our nation and our leaders. If you do not have a prayer book, please go to our website for daily readings. And then there is our Pumpkin Patch. We are able to welcome guest onto our campus, offer a low cost family friendly activity for our community, and able to generate funds for our ministries and outreach, thanks to so many of you who help us in this endeavor.

From the Music Director - end of the year
I want to end 2011 with thanks. Thanks to and for all of the volunteers in all of the music ensembles. Thanks to and for the worship leaders. Thanks to and for the instrumentalists. Thanks to and for our wonderful pastoral leadership. Thanks to and for all the church members and attendees that have supported the music ministry. Thanks to and for all the wonderful friends and strangers that stepped up to support me during (what I hope is) the most difficult time of my life. Thanks to and for wonderful in-laws that give me family where I once had none. I want to give thanks for all of these things.
But, that doesn't change all of the other emotions that I'm experiencing at the same time. I also want to focus on all the others in our church and community that are going through the holiday season in grief. Like me, the grieving may be recent. Other have been dealing with their loss much longer. In the same breath that I lift up my thanks I also lift up all of us who are struggling this Christmas. I ask you to please do the same. God DOES answer prayers. Please, send them out and send them often.
And finally, I pray that God blesses all of our families with the best possible Christmas ever.
God Bless,

The Musician's Prayer
Thanks so much for the wonderful support everyone gave the Chancel Choir and Redeemed through our special Easter services. We couldn't do it without you.
Be sure to be here Sunday, May 29th for the 9:00am service, as our Handbells will play for the last time before their Summer break.
Here is a little something I found years ago. I don't think it's limited to just musicians, but everyone as they enter God's house on Sunday morning as well as singing His praise throughout the day.
Oh Lord, please bless this music that it might glorify your name.
May the talent that you have bestowed upon me be used only to serve you.
Let this music be a witness to your majesty and love, and remind us that you are always watching, and listening, from your throne above.
May your presence and beauty be found in every note, and may the words that are sung reach the hearts of your people so they will draw closer to you.
May your Spirit guide us through every measure so that we might be the instruments of your peace, and proclaim your glory with glad voices.

A Time to Remember
I remember where I was on 9/11 and I bet you do too. I was serving Leesville First Methodist and had many military families in our church. I found out that all had been placed on High Alert - their lives and our lives have not been the same since. I don't care if you think our military response is right or wrong. I am asking you to do what I called our church family to do that day - Pray
Max Lucado shared a beautiful prayer for the nation just days after 9/11, and I would like to share part of that with us: "We're still hoping, we'll wake up. We're still hoping we'll open a sleepy eye and think, "What a horrible dream." But we won't, will we Father? What we saw was not a dream. Planes did gouge towers. Flames did consume our fortress. People did perish. It was no dream and dear Father, We are sad.
We are sad, Father, for as the innocent are buried, our innocence is buried as well. We thought we were safe. Perhaps we should have known better. But we didn't.
And so we come to you. We don't ask for help, we beg you for it. We don't request it; we implore it. We know what you can do.
We thank you dear Father, for these hours of unity. Christians are praying with Jews. Republicans are standing with Democrats. Skin colors have been covered by the ash of burning buildings. We thank you for these hours of unity. (my side note - above all, PRAY FOR THIS SENSE OF UNITY TO RETURN - CHRIS)
We thank you for these hours of prayer. The Enemy sought to bring us to our knees and succeeded. He had no idea, however, that we would kneel before you, O Lord. And he has no idea what You can do.
Let your mercy be upon our President, Vice President, and their families. Grant to those who lead us, wisdom beyond their years and experience. Have mercy on the souls who have departed and the wounded who remain. Give us grace that we might forgive and faith that we might believe. And look kindly upon your church. For two thousand years you have used her to heal a hurting world. DO IT AGAIN, LORD. DO IT AGAIN. AMEN!
Sincerely,
Chris Blanchard
