As we were doing our overview of the Old
Testament on Wednesday night a couple of weeks ago, we
were in the book of Psalms. We were talking about our
favorite Psalm and we all agreed that the 23rd Psalm
was the most recognized scripture in the Bible. It
reminded me of a hymn we don’t sing very often “The
King of Love My Shepherd Is”. The six verses of the hymn were written from the 23rd Psalm and is about God's abiding presence, our desperate need for Him, and a promise that even through "death's dark vale," there is a cross to guide us. That is the good news of the Gospel. Take some time and look it up in a hymnal (138 in UMH) or Google the lyrics. It will bless you as much as reading the Psalm.
